We are proud to announce this Norfolk & Western J Class for O Scale 2-Rail and 3-Rail in a new brass hybrid offering, produced in partnership with the Norfolk & Western Historical Society and Virginia Museum of Transportation.
More than forty years after our previous HO and O Scale releases, the legendary Norfolk & Western Class J and J1 locomotives return to Sunset Models 3rd Rail, completely reimagined as premium brass-hybrid models.
Designed by Norfolk & Western engineers and constructed at the railroad’s Roanoke Shops, the Class J combined extraordinary power with the speed, balance, and reliability required for N&W’s demanding mountain territory. Fourteen locomotives, numbered 600–613, were built for service on premier passenger trains including the Powhatan Arrow, Pocahontas, Cavalier, Pelican, and Tennessean.
No. 611, the sole surviving Class J. Built in 1950, 611 returned to excursion service during the 1980s and 1990s and was restored again for operation in 2015. Today, the locomotive remains one of the most recognizable surviving American steam locomotives and is widely known as the Spirit of Roanoke.

Couplers: Electronic coil couplers (3-Rail ERR only)
Prototypical details
• ERR Cruise is compatible with Legacy, DCS, TMCC, and Conventional control systems, Blunami is not and independently operated through the iPhone or Andriod Apps.
Smoke will not "puff" with Blunami, only constant for the time being...
