Southern Pacific GS-5 “Daylight” O Scale by Sunset Models 3rd Rail
Following in the proud tradition of Southern Pacific’s famed Daylight steam power, the GS-5 represented the pinnacle of the GS series. Built in 1942 by the Lima Locomotive Works, only two of these semi-streamlined 4-8-4 locomotives were ever produced, SP 4458 and SP 4459. Outwardly similar to the GS-4, the GS-5s were distinguished by their roller bearings on all axles and numerous mechanical refinements, making them the most advanced and efficient steam locomotives in the Southern Pacific roster.
Now, Sunset Models / 3rd Rail proudly brings the GS-5 to O Scale 2 and (3 Rail for the first time) expertly crafted in brass, capturing every distinction between these rare locomotives and their predecessors. From their elegant streamlining to their subtle postwar modifications, this project represents the first accurate O Scale model of the GS-5 ever produced.
